Dave's dream of cycling the world coming true... This time, he didn't only drag along a trailer with his Sitar - but also me!

FAQ

  • Geh, spinnts ihr? So weit? (Ja.)
  • Wie lange dauert so was denn?
  • Seriously, are you crazy? That far? (Yes.)
  • How long is that going to take? (We think something like 18 months.)
  • Won't your a** hurt like crazy? (Yes, it will. But only at the beginning.)
  • Where is Patagonia? (The southernmost part of South America, disconnected from the main land by the Strait of Magellan. It's half Chilean and half Argentinian.)
  • How far is it from the top all the way down to the bottom? (Along the Panamericana just over 25000 km.)
  • You guys must be in really good shape then, eh? (Erm... rather average. But that'll change during the trip for sure. We're going to start it slowly and increase our daily distance after a while.)
  • How far do you go per day? (Depending on our mood, the weather and the landscape somewhere between 20 and 100 km. Some days even more, and some days nothing at all.)
  • How do you keep in touch with the world outside? (Via internet. Most hostels and cafes have WiFi, and in "poor" countries, you even find free hotspots in public places like the town square.)
  • Isn't it annoying sometimes to be together 24/7? (Oh yes. The biggest challenge on the whole trip is to stay civilized after a hard day of riding, a longish search for a suitable camp spot, maybe even in bad weather, and keep our nerves while setting up the tent and cooking. It helps us to be silent until dinner is ready and to remind ourselves that the partner is feeling the same way. At the beginning of our trip, our opposite biorhythms drove us crazy - now we use them in order to allow ourselves daily time outs from each other even though we're together constantly: I get up early, read, write my diary and prepare breakfast, Dave on the other hand stays up late and plays music, watches movies or designs new guitar models.)
